Jericho’s Thoughts On: The New Ghostbusters Trailer and Its Reactions
With the release of the new trailer for the upcoming reboot of the 1984 classic Ghostbusters, Fans all over are outcrying over the new cast and the deviations the film producers took from the source matieral. While looking at the comments section on youtube for the trailer several patterns became apparent in the comments. One being that the new female cast consisting of Melissa McCarthy, Kristen Wiig, Kate Mckinnon, and Leslie Jones are not qualified to fill the shoes of Dan Akroyd, Bill Murray, Ernie Hudson, and Harold Ramis from the original Ghostbusters. Another common thread I saw in the comments is that the new movie will not live up to the legacy that the original left and that the original should just be left alone. Looking at these comments made me think two things: The people making these incredibly misogynistic and close minded comments are unwilling to accept the new cast on the grounds that the choice was made primarily to satisfy “feminists” and that they are outrageously close minded. After the watching the trailer for myself, I found that the film looked good and that the style and tone of the movie while updated, still retains some of the originals charm. Although some elements felt unneccesary, the trailer seemed to go in the direction that these are just people trying to be ghostbusters. This aspect remains true to the original, which just shows that the angry fans are just not open to changing elements from the original film. Now with that being said are the fans complaints justified? In my opinion no. Most of the complaints fans bring up are not justified based on what is seen in the trailer. From what is seen, it seems that the producers are taking steps to ensure that the movie will satisfy fans of Ghostbusters and common moviegoers. Set to be released in the summer Ghostbusters looks like it will keep true to its promise of a satisfying Ghostbusters movie.
