Energy Conservation Competition

lazyToday is May 3, 2016, and it is the last day for the energy conservation competition. Thanks to all the students and staff that participated because Kearny High School did really well. Out of the 41 schools participating and competing, Kearny High School placed second. This year’s champion was Encanto Elementary School, but we all championed a cause: saving energy and our environment.

This competition has been going on since April 13th, and since that day, Patrick Henry has been trying to beat us. In last year’s competition, we beat them by 1%.

Hopefully, next time we will get first place. Kearny House of Pain (KHOP) knows We only have one planet (WOHOP)!

Star Wars Day

Star Wars Day is celebrated on May 4th. It is jokingly said: “May the fourth be with you!” This references the popular phrase in Star Wars: “May the force be with you”. The phrase “May the fourth be with you” was first used by Margaret Thatcher’s political party to congratulate her on her election on May 4th, 1979. The first celebration of Star Wars Day was at the Toronto Underground Cinema in 2001. Star Wars Day is also on May 5th and shares the day with Cinco de Mayo. It is a day reserved for those who celebrate the “dark side.” It is jokingly said: “Revenge of the fifth”, in reference to the title of the third Star Wars film Revenge of the Sith. “Revenge of the fifth” is sometimes celebrated on May 6 because some people celebrate Cinco de Mayo first. Star Wars Day is held over a two day period making the fun last longer. So get ready Star Wars fans because Star Wars Day is just around the horizon.
