Uber Everywhere?

The app that allows you to find a ride anywhere by just simply ordering one off your phone and paying an affordable price is Uber. The game changing and trendy app has not only changed the game by making transportation more convenient and affordable, but it has also changed the economy. It has created more jobs for people and is almost the perfect side job. Uber drivers can choose their own hours, can make tips, and use their own vehicle.

However, Uber has also changed the economy by making it harder for the traditional taxi companies to compete with Uber and make money. Despite this, I personally like Uber, which lead me to look more into the cons of having this app. After just simply typing “Uber incidents” into Google, it popped up with about 647,000 results. After viewing about three websites, it was clear that there aren’t just a few cons but very serious incidents that have occurred.

One story from the Los Angeles Times was about an Orange County woman who was allegedly raped by her Uber driver. This wasn’t the only case of an Uber rape which was very surprising and unsettling. It made me realize how this affects students. A lot of students use Uber and other apps such as Lyft to get around due to the fact they can’t drive yet. This summer Uber just might be the biggest transportation for teens, but with these events happening, it’s so important to be cautious.
