R.I.P. You were one of the best fighters around. Kimbo Slice, you will be missed.
Sadly, graduation is for seniors only, as they receive their diplomas leaving their younger friends…behind. But enthusiastically, our early grad seniors flock back for the grand ceremony, diplomas, and celebrations.
There are so many ceremonies throughout San Diego county this time of year—and just like the spring scattering of purple Jacaranda blossoms—the thrown-graduations caps will joyfully drift downwards announcing the end of our seniors’ youthful spring, as they commence the summer of their adult lives. Congratulations to all the seniors for their hard work during their four lengthy years of high school.
Kearny high schools graduation is on the Summer Solstice: the last day of school: June 21st. The ceremony begins at 5:00, and there is not an official set ending time.
Congrats to all the seniors who made it to the end and plan on carrying their educational journey into college.
Powder Puff is a team sport where girls play football against other girls, and just like the regular male sport, but in this case they did not have padding, so no tackling was allowed. This is why the girls played flag football, so no one would get hurt.
The Junior girls competed against the Senior girls. They played on Thursday, May 26. The event was held on the field, and it started right after school and ended at about 5:30 pm.
Congrats to the Seniors for playing well and walking away with the win at the end. The seniors scored twice and the Juniors scored one time.
SBAC testing is only for Juniors, and it starts on Monday, May 23rd through Thursday, May 26th.
While Juniors are testing, Freshmen, Sophomores, and Seniors will be doing something different each day during the testing period that last from 9:40 – 12:10. On Thursday the testing period will be from 9:35 to 12:30 to give students more time to write essays.
Instead of Kearny Students having four periods, students will have five.
That week the schedule will be different; the periods will be shorter than they usually are except for second period because that is when testing starts. Our usual hour and a half periods will be 50, except fourth period which will be 45 minutes. On the last day of testing first and fourth period will be 45 minutes, and second and third will be 40 minutes.

Today Kearny High is hosting a track meet against Hoover High at 3:00 p.m. to about 5:30. Also, today is special for seniors because it is Senior Night. Senior Night is when all the senior athletes are recognized as their last year of participation in high school sports. The senior names will be announced over the loud speaker, and they will walk on the field and their accomplishments in sports and academics will be acknowledged and celebrated with their fans and families.
For those who don’t qualify for CIF, today is their last track meet. Tomorrow the JV league will compete against Serra High school at 4:00 pm. On Monday varsity will have high jump and triple jump competitions against another school at 3:30 p.m. at Kearny.
Tomorrow the four small Schools SCT, DMD, SIB, EID will be having a Kick Ball Tournament. It will be taking place on the baseball field right after school to about 5:30. Among many tournaments Kearny recently sponsored, Kearny had a basketball Tournament, which was held in the gym, and SCT won against other competing small schools.
So make sure that you are at the baseball field tomorrow cheering on your small school.
Last Thursday, Kearny High Schools Track team ran against Lincoln High school at approximately 3:00 p.m. to about 5:30 p.m. at Kearny High School. Even though not everyone had a chance to run or compete, Kearny’s team performance was inspirational, for it was exciting to watch our friends and peers participate. So come out this Thursday and support Kearny Komets as they run and compete against San Diego High.

Kickball is an informal game combining the two games of baseball and soccer where a ball is rolled across home plate (rather than pitched) to a person who kicks it and then runs the bases to score.
Kearny High School now has their own small school basketball team. Meaning, each small school (SIB, DMD, SCT, EID) will be competing against each other. Students and teachers are teaming up to represent their small school. These four teams will be competing in a basketball tournament.
When: March 23,2016
Congratulations to SCT for winning the basketball tournament!
